Neil’s bio:

Neil H. Smith joined Vanguard Renewables as Chief Executive Officer in 2021 with the goal to make a lasting impact on the renewable energy landscape and advance the critical path to decarbonization needed for the industry to thrive. Mr. Smith has a deep knowledge of the energy business and broad expertise in managing complex businesses with large strategic and financial shareholders.

Prior to joining Vanguard, Mr. Smith spent more than 25 years transforming InterGen, Inc., from a 20-person start-up to a 700-plus person global multi-billion dollar operating and development company spanning six continents and more than 20 countries in both regulated and de-regulated markets. Mr. Smith played an integral role in the financing, construction, and operation of over $15 billion in development projects including more than 25 power plants, and related infrastructure.

Prior to becoming InterGen‘s CEO, Mr. Smith served as the company’s first Chief Operating Officer. He has served on the Board of John Wood Group PLC and the PJM Board of Managers. Mr. Smith holds a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Emory University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
