The Environmental Engineer reports to the VP of Operations and monitors the Company’s operational anaerobic digester facilities for performance and health, compiles data for performance reports, and builds resources to improve future troubleshooting.

Feedstock Sales & Logistics

Vanguard Renewables is the premier anaerobic digester developer/owner/operator in the United States. Our closed-loop anaerobic digestion process converts organic waste into green electricity or renewable natural gas as well as other related “value-added” products. We are headquartered in MA, funded by institutional capital partners, and currently, have projects operating and in development in 13 states. We have a plan to aggressively expand into other domestic markets.

The Organics Account Manager is responsible for supporting the Organic Solutions Sales Team with processes and procedures that support the acquisition of new organic material revenue streams. You are a “hunter” and thrive in a competitive environment where you are tasked to build new business opportunities. Entrepreneurial, you will source new pipelines of organic waste material to feed the digesters. You will be assigned a territory and a prospect roadmap to set you up for success. You must be an effective communicator, meticulous in your craft, and highly detailed, and enjoy developing strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. Consistent communications and quality customer service are imperative to developing long-term relationships with new partners.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • The acquisition of new clients in your assigned territory
  • Document sales activities and general account management in Salesforce (CRM) and update existing records when new market information is collected
  • Utilize prospecting sales tools such as LinkedIn, ZoomInfo, social media, etc. to efficiently push company information into our Salesforce CRM platform

Human Resources

The Manager of Human Resources reports to the Director of Human Resources and executes human resources initiatives and operations for the Company. The Manager is responsible for executing benefits programs, talent acquisition and management programs, regulatory compliance, and all other areas of the human resources function.

About the Role

The Summer Sales Associate position is an internship opportunity responsible for supporting the Feedstock (organic food waste) Sales Team with insight and acquisition of new businesses for food waste recycling.

We will provide adequate training and supervision in desired sales techniques. Ideal candidates will have an entrepreneurial work style, excellent judgment and discretion, top-notch verbal skills, an eagerness to learn, and be organized and ready for a challenge. We are a fast paced company who values innovation and lived experiences. Growth and success are measured both individually and by the success of the Sales Feedstock Team as a whole.

  • Duration: June 7th to August 12th (ten weeks)

Responsibilities

Marketing

The New Markets and National Account Manager reports to the VP of Marketing & Strategic Initiatives and the Farm Powered Strategic Alliance (FPSA) Director and develops the feedstock sales strategy for identified priority development markets based on data acquired from outside consultants and other sources. The position also oversees development of a sales team for new markets and manages relationships for new priority market D5 feedstock accounts. The New Markets and National Account Manager will also work alongside the FPSA Director to identify and secure new national and market-specific accounts and subsequent feedstock contracts in priority markets and dovetail with the development team in each market prior to market entry. The New Markets and National Account Manager will be responsible for relationship building with major based feedstock generators identified in the priority development markets, executing sales proposals, and securing feedstock contracts for those in-market facilities. This person will work collaborate with the market development teams prior to market entry.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Develop the feedstock acquisition strategy and plan for each identified priority market including recommending the sales team requirements to effectively sign feedstock partners in those markets
  • Work with the D5 development team as a liaison with outside feedstock acquisition consulting firm
  • Work alongside the FPSA Director on relationship management with FPSA member locations in the identified priority markets and helps to move national FPSA member relations forward with the goal of key market feedstock contracts
  • With the sales support team, create feedstock sales proposals, contracts, PPT decks, presentations, documents, and reports to support national account and new market feedstock sales

Operations

The Environmental Lab Technician is a member of the Operations and Feedstock teams and is based at the Company’s Agawam, Massachusetts Organics Recycling Facility. This position processes and tests organic waste material, assesses documents and findings, and works closely with our Biology Group and Feedstock Sales team to support the operation of the Company’s anaerobic digester facilities.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Receives, labels, and analyzes a variety food waste samples in a field laboratory setting incoming samples from 6-7 locations.
  • Utilizes a benchtop spectrophotometer and moisture balance to carry out basic analysis, including: COD, Total Solids, TKN, Total Organic Carbon, Sulfide content, etc.
  • Participates in training related to operation of lab equipment
  • Maintains a clean and organized lab space
  • Troubleshoots and resolve equipment breakdowns, schedules/preforms preventative maintenance on lab equipment
  • Keeps laboratory supplies in stock by taking inventory and placing supply orders
  • Records results in an organized and efficient manner
  • Documents/reports procedures and results internally
  • Works closely with operations and biology team to optimize sampling and testing procedures

Vanguard Renewables develops, constructs, and operates farm-based anaerobic digesters for unwanted food disposal and renewable energy generation. We currently have five operational digesters in Massachusetts, one in Vermont, and projects under development in New York, Georgia, Colorado, and Florida. In Massachusetts we process over 500 tons per day of unwanted food.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Biogas Technician performs skilled work that is necessary in operating an anaerobic digester, gas conditioning skid, associated digester and upgrader plant equipment. The facility is composed of a digester, pumps, gas blowers, compressors, oxygen generators, condensers, chillers, and related auxiliary equipment.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Adheres to, and has full working knowledge of, the company safety program. Will have limited oversight responsibility for outside maintenance contractors to ensure that they are working in a safe manner. Communicates with all personnel to stress the importance of a safe work environment. Required to isolate equipment following proper Lock-out Tag-Out procedures.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and supports the plant safety, health, and environmental programs in all activities. Contributes to incident investigations to reduce recurrence of accidents/incidents.
  • Supports and promotes the philosophy of maintaining an accident/incident free workplace.
  • General Mechanical Duties- including valve replacement, tighten valve packing, minor pipe/flange repairs, disconnect and replace mixer motors on digesters, open and close bolted manway
  • Assist and support outside contractors with maintenance onsite maintenance such as media change-outs, large equipment overhauls, and vacuum removal of solids from digesters.
  • Monitor gas production of anaerobic digesters with a focus on O2 and H2S concentration.
  • Complete daily rounds of plant equipment and capture fluid temps, pressures, oil levels, gas concentrations, process flows. Check equipment for proper operation looking for excessive vibration, fluid leaks and any conditions needing further attention. Accurately record all plant operational parameters and respond to unsatisfactory trends.
  • Operate plant equipment including the pumps, blowers, and other related auxiliary equipment in accordance with manufacture recommendation and established company policy.
  • Participate in plant housekeeping programs and material handling safety activities to ensure safe working conditions.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of preventative maintenance activities.
  • Write work orders on work management software to track repairs and scheduled maintenance
  • Assist in writing Standard Operating Procedures and Energy Isolation Procedures

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Relevant maintenance and operating experience in an industrial or gas processing environment is desired.
  • Operational experience may be supplemented with military experience or training in a related field.

Working Conditions:

  • Work locations are industrial and agricultural, primarily outdoors.

Regular exposure to heat, noise, flammable materials, rotating equipment, and other conditions normally encountered in an industrial environment should be expected. Vanguard Renewables seeks a Director of Construction to be a leader in the construction process from siting to construction completion. The Director is responsible for managing multiple project managers including: the coordination and oversight of the engineering contractor, designer, and general contractor. This person will interface with municipal officials, dairymen, utilizing complex financial models necessary to analyze the feasibility of development projects, creating investor/lender presentation packages, permitting, and various pre-construction project management duties. The Director will also be responsible for assisting in the preparation and tracking of project budgets and project proformas to ensure that development projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with permits and other requirements.

Roles and Responsibilities include:

  • Manage select construction projects and related functions and activities
  • Ensure project activities comply with company and contract requirements
  • Coordinate with and manage subcontractors

Vanguard Renewables seeks a Development Associate to support development finance and project management initiatives. Reporting to the Development Manager and VP of Development, the Development Associate will be engaged in tasks ranging from financial analysis on potential and existing development projects to construction and permitting support.

Roles and Responsibilities include:

Analytical:

  • Maintain complex acquisition and development models for all projects
  • Collect and integrate project data and underwriting assumptions, including construction cash flow requirements, operating income and expense projections and financing assumptions for project proformas
  • Maintain project budgets and schedules and report on variances
  • Prepare reports for senior management on development progress and critical decision points
  • Assist in origination, underwriting and due diligence of acquisition and investment transactions
  • Assist in management of the development process and interact with venture partner(s) representatives regarding specific project issues.

Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Participate in a variety of aspects related to the financing, permitting and programming of digester development projects.

The Development Manager is responsible for a variety of project management tasks including: the coordination and oversight of the architect/engineer and general contractor during construction, interfacing with municipal officials, utilizing complex financial models necessary to analyze the feasibility of development projects, creating investor/lender presentation packages, permitting, and various other development project management duties. The Development Manager will also be responsible for assisting in the preparation and tracking of project budgets and project proformas to ensure that development project completed on schedule, within budget and in compliance with the terms of joint venture agreements.

The Development Manager reports to the Vice President of Development and the Director of Development.

  • Manage all development projects and related functions and activities

Location: Wellesley, MA (Currently Remote) and travel

The Engineering Manager will provide direction and oversite of multiple 3rd party design firms on multiple fast-paced development projects, ensuring the effective consolidation of project designs as well as conformance to key schedule deliverables. Candidate will work closely with the Development Team to ensure that schedules are realistic and achievable. This will include identification of key predecessors / successors for project deliverables, definition and tracking of project milestones, and identification and mitigation of project risks.

The Engineering Manager will work closely with the Construction Team and the supporting Field Engineer to provide technical support to both construction planning and construction execution. They will be responsible for identification, development, and implementation of continuous performance initiatives in conjunction with the rest of the engineering team.

The Engineering Manager will report to the Director of Engineering.

Sustainability

The Farmer Engagement Manager reports to the Chief Sustainability Officer and leads programs and initiatives that promote positive engagement between Vanguard Renewables and the farms with which we work. Initial focus will be supporting development activity associated with Vanguard Renewables Organics development teams. The role will work across Vanguard siting, development and operational teams to develop practices and promote a culture of high engagement with farms. A significant portion of the role will be developing and implementing processes that drive strong engagement with farmers, including CRM systems, farmer communication, and staff training programs. This role will lead Salesforce system utilization for farmer interactions, support development of marketing and communication outreach plans and calendars, and be an ambassador with our farms. The position will collaborate with development, marketing, sustainability, and project operations teams to achieve success. Another significant portion of the role will be supporting development teams with specific farm issues and opportunities.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Develop processes that enhance strong communication within Vanguard, and engagement with farms we work with
  • Act as a liaison between Vanguard Renewables and our farm partners including farmers, cooperatives, farm and agricultural organizations, etc.
  • Shorten development timelines through processes that support highly engaged relationships
  • Support development teams in communicating Vanguard’s farm value proposition
  • Utilize Salesforce to monitor, measure and report on farmer engagement
  • Collaborate on development of outreach to the farm community, both existing farm partners and prospects including developing marketing and communication calendars for newsletters, social media, and other communications in concert with other internal teams
  • Support tours and events at digester facilities
  • Support engagement with dairy cooperatives and promotion organizations
  • Collaborate with siting, development and operations teams to promote high engagement with farms
  • Represent Vanguard at agricultural events and conferences

Required Skills/Abilities:
